Getting a little history lesson from renowned Historian and Professor, Seth Bramson.

And dazzled we were…at our last meeting on Tuesday, April 4th. Professor Seth Bramson, Adjunct Professor at Barry University and authoring over 30 books, took us back to the classroom and gave us a lively history lesson. He reminded us of the many women that played a part in South Florida history. He cleared up some misconceptions and stories that evolved over the years and reminded us how important it is to be involved in our community.

Professor Bramson was very direct and focused in clarifying myths, like the legendary story about Julia Tuttle, sending a spray of oranges to Henry Flagler to entice him to coming South. Professor Bramson confirmed that this was debunked and stated that it remains an error that lives on. He sarcastically asks, "Were these oranges Fedexed to him?" And, did you know that Miami Shores was originally known as the community of Biscayne? I didn't. He highlighted that there was more than one Mother of Miami - not just Julia DeForest Tuttle and that homage should also be paid to Mary Brickell, Isabella Peacock and many others.

He later focused on the ugly racist communities that existed back in the day and reminded us about the importance of the phrase "See Something, Say Something" - still true today.

Also, during our luncheon, we voted in our new Recording Secretary, Michael Michel We are so happy to have him on our board. He brings such positivity to our club and is always such a pleasure. Congratulations, Michael!
