On Tuesday, February 3rd, we had the honor of hearing from equal rights activist Giselle Kovac, whose lifelong commitment to equity and human dignity continues to inspire.
Guided by a deep belief that everyone deserves equal opportunity to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, Giselle has spent more than forty years advocating for equal rights. Her activism began in healthcare, where, as a licensed midwife, she championed legislation supporting mothers, babies, and families.
Her dedication to children and education continued through her leadership at Miami Shores’ Miami Theater Center, first as a board member and later as Executive Director, where she helped expand exceptional arts and educational programming for local schools and communities across Miami-Dade County.
Giselle’s advocacy has also included board service with Miami Shores People of Color and long-standing involvement with SAVE, a South Florida organization that advances rights and protections for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities while supporting inclusive local and statewide leadership. She is also a founding member of Unite Miami Shores and Miami Shores Pride.
A mother of three and grandmother of seven, her favorite role to date, Giselle remains deeply motivated to create a more just and compassionate world for future generations.
During her talk, Giselle emphasized the importance of recognizing every human with dignity and respect. She shared valuable resources that provide education and support for the LGBTQ community and highlighted the critical need to protect and uplift our youth.
