On Monday, June 1, 2026, our organization and Village came together to celebrate a room filled with Heroes. During the event, 19 grants were awarded to local nonprofit organizations, along with four scholarships presented to deserving students.
This event was dedicated to individuals who have exhibited great dedication and selfless work to stand by their missions. From supporting foster families, guiding LGBTQ youth, assisting senior citizens, bolstering school programs, feeding the hungry, and many more important causes.
The Miami Shores Friendly Villagers is grateful to our generous sponsor: Tropical Chevrolet, whose funding assisted with securing our venue and who surprised us with two large screen tvs for our scholarship recipients. Our loyal community partners: The Miami Shores Community Alliance, whose grant paid for all of our Heroes' lunches. Our kind donors: The Calli Family, the Dziena Scheeler Family, The Maggi Realty Group, The Miami Shores Rotary Club, and The Moms Making Waves, whose contributions helped fund the four scholarships awarded this year.
Thank you all for your continued support, generosity, and commitment to strengthening our community.

In honor of our Past President, Susanne Rice, a member who has demonstrated an unwavering passion for helping those less fortunate and who established the MSFV Scholarship Program, we have proudly named it the "It Takes a Village Rice Family Scholarship." This year, each recipient received $1,385.75.
The recipients from Doctors Charter School and Young Women's Preparatory Academy were nominated by their respective school administrators. All graduating seniors met our criteria by exceeding the required volunteer service hours, most completing more than 900 hours of community service. They also excelled academically.
We are committed to increasing the scholarship award amount every year so that we can further support outstanding students as they pursue their educational goals.
Doctors Charter School: Hannah Gonzalez/1,280 Community Service Hours/Attending Barry University &
Geraldy Refuse/1,149 Comunity Service Hours/Attending Florida Atlantic University
Young Women's Preparatory Academy: Oldina Bigot/999 Community Service Hours/Attending Southeastern University & Alena Hicks/350 Community Service Hours/Attending University of South Florida
We are dedicated to supporting nonprofit organizations by promoting their missions within our community, on our website, through social media channels, and in local magazines. Additionally, we link them with Impact Partners, who are nonprofit advisors.
It was a very special day. The room was filled with good friends, hope, and inspiration.
